AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!!

Glimpses Of A Trans-Canada Journey Made In 1978.

CANADIAN NATIONAL RAILROAD No. 6514

Whilst Waiting To Board The Train, I Took The Opportunity To Grab This Shot Of The Locomotive Which Was To haul Me Half Way Across This Vast Country. It Is Late Evening In Vancouver, And I Seem To Be The Only Person Who Has Taken An Interest.

CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILROAD No. 5807

Wherever There Are Passing Loops There You Will Find These Huge Freight Trains Going The Other Way. They Have Locomotives At The Head, In The Middle, And At The End Of The Train, And Take An Age To Pass Being So Very Long By Our Standards.

CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILROAD No. 1413

From Winnipeg My Coach Had Been Loosed From The Canadian National Train And Coupled To The Rear Of The Canadian Pacific Train For My Continued Journey Onwards To Montreal. This Unit Is Made Up Of Three Locomotives, Working As One. The Train Boasted Two Dome Cars, One Of Which Was Above The Rear Observation Car, Two Restaurants, And Especially For Me, Two Bars!

A 'NORTHLANDER' DIESEL RAILCAR UNIT

I Would Guess This Is Used More For Local Runs Than Trans-Continental Journeys. Mind You, Local Runs In Canada Must Be More Like London To Inverness Rather Than London To Orpington!

ONTARIO NORTHLAND No.1310

Two Different Liveries For These Two Northland 'Switcher' Locomotives. I Would Guess That The Blue Is The New, And The Green The Old. Perhaps Someone Out There Could Put Me Right?

ONTARIO NORTHLAND No. 1517

Another Main Line Locomotive Sporting Which I Assume Is The Old Livery. We Were Passing Quite A Large Motive Power Depot At The Time That These 'Northland' Pictures Were Taken.

One Of The More Ornate Railway Cars To Be Seen

Lurking In The Background At Vancouver Station I Spotted This Rather Handsome Carriage (Or Car As They Call Them Over There) Behind It Is A Very Much More Modern Stainless Steel Railcar.
