REGIONAL ROUND-UP

More From The Big Four Around London And The South East

5082 'SWORDFISH'

One Of The Castles Re-named After World War II Warplanes, 'Swordfish' Accelerates The Down 'Bristolian' Through Ealing Broadway In 1960. No Smokebox Identification Was Thought Neccessary On This Occasion However.

34068 'KENLEY'

'Battle Of Britain' Class Pacific 'Kenley' Seen Here Nearing Wimbledon In 1961 With An Up Express From Devon & Cornwall. 34068 Would Have Taken Over The Train At Salisbury, Relieving The Engine From Exeter. Amazingly This Might Possibly Be Haulage By The Train's Fifth Bulleid Pacific Of The Day, Three Seperate Sections Of The Train Joining At Exeter To Form This One, Each Of Which May Well Have Had One At It's Head .

46153 'THE ROYAL DRAGOON'

A Nice Set Of Very Mixed Stock, Typical Of London Midland Region Trains Heading North Through London At Willesden Junction In 1960. The L.M.R Seemed Not To Care Where Their Rolling Stock Came From As Long As They Had Enough With Which To Form Their Trains.

60137 'REDGAUNTLET'

A Pacific From Gateshead Shed (52A) Pounding Through Stevenage On It's Way To Kings Cross. Number 60137 Was Not Too Common In The Capital Area And Would Have Been Quite A Treat For The London Train Spotter's Waiting At The Terminus.

Q1 33026 & G16 30495

A Reminder That Engine Sheds Could Be Dangerous Places, With Red Hot Ashes Waiting To Melt Rubber Soles With Ease. 'Charlie' No. 33026 On The Ashpits In Company With A Massive Urie G16 Hump Engine No. 30495 Awaiting Another Spell Of Duty In The Large Marshalling Yard Which Feltham Shed Was Built To Serve. It Is Of Interest To Note That The Normal Stud Of Engines From The Old L.S.W.R, Have Been Joined By Others From The S.E.C.R, And L.B.&.S.R In This Shot Having Been Displaced From Their Own Areas Since Electrification Of The Lines.

57XX Class No. 4692

An Interesting Duty For A Nine Elms Based Ex G.W.R Pannier Tank No. 4692. I'm Afraid I Don't Recognise The Headcode But I Would Assume That This Is An Engineer's Inspection Saloon Off On A Jolly To Somewhere. Wimbledon 1961

Standard Class Five No. 73083

Apologies For Including Another Shot Of This Locomotive On This Occasion But This Is Rather Nice Taken In The Old ILFORD Colour Film Of The Time. An Old Fireman Mate Of Mine 'Bob' Is Seen Hanging From The Cab In Greeting After Working This Train To Basingstoke, His Home Shed.
